Mi-24 helicopter training complex
Mi-24PU1 helicopter training complex has successfully passed the state tests and been accepted as the Armed Forces of Ukraine equipment by the order of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine No. 358 dated by July the 3rd, 2019. The training complex has been completely designed by Scientific and production association “AVIA”, Ltd., during research and design work performed according to the task from the Chief of Ukrainian Army and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The purpose of the work is to provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine with modern aircraft training complexes.

Mi-24PU1 helicopter training complex ensures the following:
- efficient theoretical training of flight and engineering personnel operating Mi-24PU1 helicopters as well as aviation academies cadets in helicopter design and flight and maintenance manuals;
- crew members (pilot and weapons systems officer) studying and practicing preparation for flight, helicopter handling, operation of helicopter systems and equipment, helicopter combat engagement and emergency procedures described in the flight manual;
- efficient combat training of helicopter crew in real environment of modern battle including penetration anti-aircraft defense and electronic warfare systems, interaction with forward air controller (FAC) of Army aviation combat control team using different tactical scenarios;
- FAC theoretical and practical training during helicopter combat engagement exercises;
- efficient theoretical and practical training of engineering personnel using modern technical training aids.

Mi-24PU1 helicopter training complex comprises the following:
-Mi-24PU1 helicopter full flight simulator (FFS) with 6 degrees of freedom motion system and vibration system;
-Mi-24PU1 helicopter flight training device (FTD);
-forward air controller (FAC) simulator;
-full-fledged interactive classroom for flight and engineering personnel.

Mi-24PU1 helicopter FFS is sophisticated software and hardware complex that ensures highly realistic imitation of helicopter day night and NVG flight within the complete range of operational altitudes and speeds, in day and night conditions, in good and bad weather conditions, namely:

- full capability of crew practicing helicopter handling techniques, navigation techniques, combat engagement and emergency procedures in the conditions very close to real ones according to the combat training course;
- full compliance with Mi-24PU1 helicopter flight dynamics, operation of helicopter systems and equipment, cockpit ergonomics, the set of instruments and controls;
- full compliance of angles of view of cockpit external environment, acoustic, acceleration and vibration environment to those of a real helicopter;
- capability to practice airborne weapons engagement according to the combat training course, including modeling air and ground tactical scenario, penetration anti-aircraft defense, visual and informational interaction with FAC and flight controller;
- helicopter formation flight (using FTD or formation flight module) using different tactical scenarios, radio communication with the flight controller and FAC;
- quality imitation of linear and angular displacement and accelerations as well as vibrations typical for Mi-24PU1 helicopter that are produced by 6 degrees of freedom motion and vibrations system;
- detailed debriefing of simulator flights.

Use of Mi-24PU1 helicopter FFS allows bringing efficiency and level of flight personnel training to the higher level of quality. These are the combined approach to the training process, use of the most modern technical training aids as well as the appropriate training methods and programs that result in the great efficiency in knowledge absorption, significantly decrease time and cost of training of flight and engineering personnel and forward air controllers.
The capability of performing simulator flights in conditions that are very close to the real ones ensures significant increase of crews real combat readiness and their ability to perform difficult combat tasks in modern conditions.
Parallel to developing Mi-24PU1 training complex Scientific and production association “AVIA”, Ltd., also developed FFS for Mi-24V and Mi-24/35P modifications. “AVIA” training center is equipped with Mi-24 helicopter convertible simulator. This simulator can be converted between Mi-24V, Mi-24/35P and Mi-24PU1 helicopter modifications by replacing the cockpit and instrument equipment as well as the appropriate software within short time.
FFS of Mi-35M helicopter, which is the most modern modification of Mi-24/35 series helicopters, is in the final stage of development and manufacture.



Technical and technical characteristics, functional and training capabilities of this simulator are significantly superior to those of other existing Mi-24/35 helicopter simulators.

Mi-24 FFS employs 12 channels visual system of new generation with very high technical characteristics and quality of displayed image. Horizontal angle of view of cockpit external environment for both pilot and weapons systems officer is 240 (+-120) degrees and the vertical one is 130 (-35 +95) degrees. The visual system provides high quality of seamless image with every channel resolution of 2560х1600 pixels and frame frequency above 60 Hz. Employment of high quality professional BARCO projectors that emit both visible and infrared spectrums ensures full scale training of slight personnel in night flights with standard NVG use. The NVG used are of PNL-3 and PNL-4 types that are used by many European countries.
